Near strangulation of children prompts recall of Roman shades sold at Bed Bath and Beyond
Near strangulation of children prompts recall of Roman shades sold at Bed Bath and Beyond
Louis Hornick has announced a recall of about 364,000 Dublin Energy Solution Roman shades, sold exclusively at Bed Bath and Beyond, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The Roman shades have an exposed inner cord that poses a strangulation risk for children. If a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the shades, or if a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck, there is risk of strangulation.

There have been two reports of young children becoming entangled in the exposed inner cord on the back of the shade, but no permanent injuries were sustained.

This recall includes all sizes and colors of Dublin Energy Solution Roman Shades sold by Bed Bath and Beyond with exposed inner cords on the back. Colors include navy, chocolate, khaki, and cream. On the back of the head rail there's a small orange, black, and white warning label sticker which says, in part: "Cords and bead chains can loop around child's neck and STRANGLE. Always keep cords ...to get to cords," in both English and Spanish.

The shades were sold exclusively by Bed Bath and Beyond stores nationwide and on-line at www.bedbathandbeyond.com from August 2007 through September 2009 for between $40 and $130. They were made in China.
