| Circumcision Care |
|
The first tough procedure many moms with baby boys endure is circumcision. Although many doctors do not feel it is medically necessary, society in America today encourages a circumcised penis. Many people also feel that it is cleaner. If your decision is to have a circumcision done on your baby, you will need to care for the wound until it heals. When your baby is first circumcised, he will have a petroleum jelly soaked bandage wrapped around the wound. The penis will look very red underneath the bandage. When your baby boy urinates, the bandage will fall off. When changing the diaper, simply wipe around the penis with a soft washcloth and warm water. Clean the penis gently with warm water. For stool, you can use some gentle soap. At every diaper change, apply petroleum jelly and a fresh bandage. Some hospitals will give you pre-soaked petroleum jelly bandages. As the wound heals, there may be a slight yellow discharge or crust around where the penis was cut. Just keep it clean and the wound will heal up quickly. If your baby shows any of these symptoms of infection, call your Pediatrician. |
