Do you always monitor cooking food? Carelessness during cooking is the number one cause of house fires.

Is a fire extinguisher located near your stove and do you know how to use it? Ten feet away is ideal.

Have you taught your toddler to understand "Hot -- Don't touch!"?

Do you automatically use the back burner farthest from your children's reach?

Are you careful to avoid having cookware handles facing outward where small children can grab them?

To prevent a curious child from a climbing accident, have you removed all snacks from shelves above the stove?

Do you remove all toys from the kitchen floor before cooking?

Do you automatically put dirty dishes in the sink to prevent toddlers from pulling them off countertops?

 

Are you always careful to place hot drinks out of a toddler's reach?

Do you keep a pan top accessible to smother grease fires?

Do you keep baking soda handy to extinguish food fires? Never throw water on a grease fire!

Are you careful to keep accumulated grease from building up?

If a fire starts in the oven, do you turn it off and keep the door shut?
